Countering hate speech requires courage and competence among youth

Before defining policies to promote young people’s democratic participation, we must listen to them so they can indicate the direction we should take.

During our consortium meeting in Lisbon recently, Scientific Coordinator Oddrun Samdal was interviewed by the Portuguese newspaper Público and the project’s founders were featured in a podcast.

Standing up to hate speech requires both courage and competence among youth. Before creating policies to strengthen democratic and civic participation, we must first need to listen to them – to understand their perspectives, needs, and the pathways they see for active engagement.

As highlighted in the interview with Oddrun Samdal in Público “Contrariar o discurso de ódio exige dos jovens coragem e competência”
